A Short Break in Birmingham Pt.1

Recently me and my partner went on a short break away.

We travelled to Birmingham, which is the second largest city in the UK and is situated in the West Midlands. It took us around three hours to drive there from London and on the way I snapped a couple of selfies.

I used the Tanya Burr eye glitter in the shade Champagne Sparkle and pictures just don’t do it justice. It’s absolutely gorgeous and one of my favourite makeup items at the moment.

I also painted my nails in the car, using Tanya Burr’s glitter nail polish in the shade Glitters and Gold.

Instead of driving straight to our hotel, we stopped off ten minutes away from the city centre. Having seen Eis Cafe mentioned online, we knew that we had to try their famous loco shakes and desserts.

Eis Cafe has a shabby, mismatched look with furniture that has a second hand feel. I like that it has character and originality, rather than being too sleek.

Dessert wise we opted for the warm chocolate muffin with apple crumble ice cream, which was a good choice. The muffin was delicious and the ice cream added a tart edge.

We also ordered a chocolate fudge loco shake which is the same as a freakshake.

For a place that’s famous for its loco shakes, it was just okay. It looked amazing, but the milkshake itself tasted like a malted chocolate drink and there was a tonne of cream to get through before we could even reach the milkshake.

Full up after our sweet treats, we drove into the city centre to check into our hotel. We stayed at the Aparthotel Adagio Birmingham City Centre.

A cross between a hotel and an apartment, I’d definitely stay there again. It cost the same as a hotel, but had a kitchenette for cooking, more space and a great central location.

Bags unpacked we decided the hit the shops, starting at the unusual and modern looking Bullring shopping centre. With shops such as Selfridges and a huge Debenhams, we did loads more Christmas shopping!

Some photos outside the Bullring shopping centre and next to St Martin in the Bull Ring Church.

And a selfie with the bull statue itself.

We then wandered around the independent shops in the Custard Factory shopping area. The shops are in the old Custard Factory building, which used to make Bird’s Custard.

It felt like we’d left the city as it was set on such a small, quaint street.

We discovered street art near the Custard Factory.

Before walking back to the main shopping area to see the Christmas Markets.

Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market is the largest German Christmas Market outside of Germany and Austria.

We browsed the stalls and ate sauerkraut and fried potatoes.

Delicious and a welcome change from all the sweet food we’d eaten that day.

We also had freshly made cheesy garlic bread from one of the stalls. The queue was huge, but it was well worth the wait and by far the best garlic bread we’ve tried.

We then walked along, taking in the Christmas lights.

Before watching live music at the busier part of the market.

We admired the big wheel.

Took a photo of us at the market.

Before heading back to our hotel and ordering in pizza. Relaxed and ready for day two.

The pictures are so great, I love being able to see areas that I don’t have the opportunity to see on my own so living vicariously through blogs is awesome! Thanksfor taking us along!
