Christmas Eve & Christmas Day in the New Forest

Christmas Eve started with breakfast in one of the on-site restaurants near our lodge.

Pancakes for me.

Before me, my partner, my mum and brother went on an alpaca walk.

On our previous stay in the New Forest we’d walked the alpacas and loved it, so we was excited to take them on another trek.

I got Pickle, the same alpaca I had before.

Pickle was super sweet and well behaved, so much so that I wanted to take him home!

After a fun afternoon, we spent some time relaxing in the lodge before having an early dinner.

My family went to an on-site restaurant, whilst me and my partner returned to The Railway Craft Pub & Kitchen, where we ate the previous night.

We had the same delicious starters, homemade nachos and frickles (fried pickles).

Followed by the sweet potato burger for me and a halloumi burger for my partner.

After our feast, we drove back to the lodge where we opened presents.

I’ve mentioned before that my family and I exchange gifts on Christmas Eve and only open stockings on Christmas Day itself.

My presents.

Cute card from my partner.

I got lots of very sweet and thoughtful gifts from my partner and family. (A full post on what I got is already up if you want to go and read it).

After presents, we walked to a nearby carol service which is also a Christmas Eve tradition for us.

We sang songs and listened to a brass band play Christmas classics. It really got us into the Christmas spirit.

After a busy but fun day we retired to the lodge, ready for Christmas Day.

Christmas Day

On Christmas Day, we had a leisurely start. We had our stockings and my brother opened his presents from Santa.

We played with my brother and helped to set up his new toys and then we walked to the on-site restaurant for Christmas dinner.

Party hats on.

For starters we had sweet potato soup with a warm bread roll.

A traditional roast Christmas dinner.

As I’m a vegetarian I had a cheese tart in place of meat. My mum also made me a vegetarian ‘pig in blanket’ and packed some veggie ‘meat’ to add on to my meal.

For dessert we had salted caramel profiteroles.

All three courses were really delicious.

Feeling full up, we all took a slow stroll back to the lodge.

As I was feeling sleepy, me and my partner headed out for a walk and a short drive. The weather was rainy, grey and gloomy, but I love getting some fresh air and going for a walk after a Christmas dinner.

After our jaunt out, we spent the rest of the evening watching Christmas TV with my family, as well as playing quizzes and board games.

My mum laid out an evening spread for us, complete with a Christmas tree shaped cheese.

Then we watched one more Christmas movie, before heading to bed.

  1. Those pancakes look yummy! Love that the fried pickles are called frickles too lol. The alpacas look so fluffy and cute, I wouldn’t be able to resist a cuddle! Your cheese tart sounds lovely and the Christmas Tree shaped cheese is fun. I wish people in NZ played board games and quizzes after the big meal, lots of people nap because the weather is hot and they’re full 😛 x

    1. I fancy pancakes whenever I see that photo! Haha it is a great name frickles☺ I couldn’t resist a cuddle. Thankfully Pickle’s an alpaca that will let you cuddle him. Christmas dinner was really nice. Haha well a lot of people do nap as they’re full and it’s warm inside your house with the heating on. Thankfully my family don’t nap😂😊 x

      1. 😂 the same. They’re a treat for me as I rarely have them. He was sweet. He walked really well for over an hour. A lot of the other alpacas tug, keep trying to stop and eat plants etc but Pickle’s a good boy😊 It’s all the food I guess. Once I’ve gone for a walk it stops me feeling sleepy from the big dinner😊 x

  2. Ahh I just love alpacas! They look so goofy, always. 😛 Were they so soft? ❤
So nice to listen to live music – it's not so often anymore.
I've never been away for Christmas day on vacation – a couple of my coworkers went somewhere warm for Christmas (Mexico and Cuba). I'd love to try it one day.

    1. I love them too! They’re all different, mine had soft, fluffy fur but some of the others had coarser fur. Or wool, I’m not sure how you describe their fluff😛😂 No it’s not. It’s lovely to listen to a brass band. I’ve been away the past two Christmasses, but I’ve never been out of the UK for Christmas or obviously had a warm one! Would you like to go away in general for Christmas or try somewhere warm?😊 x

  3. Those alpacas are so stinking cute! My cousin owns some, and I love visiting them when I go to NH. And it is so cool you got the same one you had last year! That restaurant looks sooo yummy! And I love that you guys keep traditions, even when traveling! And your mom put out such a great spread! Cheese is amazing, but shaped like a christmas tree? Win-win! I am so glad you had such a great holiday beauty! You deserve it! ❤

    1. They are so adorable! I am so jealous! I want some as pets but you need a lot of land. Maybe one day😊 I kind of forced myself to the front of the queue so I’d get Pickle again😂 We do. I love carol services and watching The Snowman, etc. All our traditions😊 I know! She did the best spread. A Christmas tree shaped cheese is definitely a win☺ Aaw thanks lovely xx

      4. Nope. Usually I get is it near Michigan? Lol. Hahah oh my gosh I love it! An di totally have that scene fro Harry potter and Prisoner of Azkaban when they free Buckbeak but have to keep him hidden. That would be you and Pickles. Pickles just flew off! I know he is an alpaca but didn’t you know he can fly? lol. ❤
