New Year’s Resolutions-January Update

It’s hard to believe it’s already half way through February! Despite January passing incredibly slowly, the year still seems to be moving fast. So without further ado, here’s how I got on in January with my resolutions.

In January we found an affordable two bedroom house close to where I work. The price was down as the owners wanted to sell up at the end of the year and we’d viewed the property, signed a contract and sorted everything, with the moving date scheduled in as the 8th February.

Then the owners decided they wanted to put the house up for sale in February and could only offer us a three month contract. There would also be open days and viewings for potential buyers. Obviously the situation was disappointing as we was ten days away from moving, but we’ll carry on looking.

2-Eat Healthily and Exercise

I definitely ate out more in January or should I say Veganuary! With so many new vegan food releases it was hard not to, but for the most part I still ate healthily.

I kept up my usual routine of exercising four times a week. I missed a couple of sessions due to a chest infection, but overall I still pushed myself.

3-Read More

I read one book in January and it was:

-The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris

My partner bought me this book last summer as I was keen to read it, but I ended up putting it off as I feared finding the book too sad.

The events at Auschwitz are heartbreaking and I cried more than once whilst reading this book. That said there was lots of beautiful, tender moments of love and friendship.

Would I recommend? Yes, definitely.

4-Do 2 New Things Per Month

We visited the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery for the first time.

Tried the vegan chicken burger at KFC.

Celebrated Chinese New Year by eating at the Banana Tree in London.

And much more.

5-Cook One New Thing Per Month

Achieved! I made four ingredient cookies using overripe bananas, dark chocolate chips, coconut oil and oats.

My first attempt.

And my second, where I perfected the recipe.

Honestly these cookies are so delicious, filling and relatively healthy. I’ll definitely be making them again soon.

6-Buy Less/As Ethically As Possible

In January I did very well. We spent more money on food than usual due to Veganuary, but we did several free museums and I didn’t buy cosmetics, clothes or anything else.

7-Travel/Go Backpacking/Go For Days Out

January was a quieter month for us. As it was freezing cold and just after our busy Christmas away, we opted for days out locally in London. We visited free museums in the city but we also went on lots of walks to get some fresh air.

8-Use My Phone Less

I think I’ve actually achieved this! There are still many moments where I procrastinate and scroll through social media, but I’ve been allowing myself a short amount of time to look online before switching off to read or blog.

I’m trying to not just mindlessly check my phone when my time could be used in more valuable ways.

So that’s how I got on in January. Let me know how you’re getting on with your New Year’s Resolutions.

    1. I know it was a total set back but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. Fingers crossed we find something soon. It is a brilliant book. So heartbreaking but still so many beautiful moments despite all that’s happening. Aaw thank you😊💕 xx

  2. That’s a shame to hear you were gearing up for a move and then the plug gets pulled. You will find something better soon ☺️ those cookies look so good, a healthier alternative! Having less screen time is good too, I went through Instagram recently and unfollowed a bunch of inactive accounts and ones I don’t interact with so there’s less to scroll through as well x

    1. Thanks hun, it has been frustrating because we spent a lot of time and energy on that property, but somewhere else will come up😊 I was so happy with the cookies, really delicious. That’s a good idea. I did that too and just started following who or what I’m really interested in xx
