New Year’s Resolutions-May & June Update

I have sooo many posts to share on here but time is flying-by so fast that I’m running a bit behind. Here’s a look at how I’ve got on the past two months with my new year’s resolutions.

1- Eat Healthily & Exercise

Tick and tick! Whilst I’ve still been working the whole of lockdown, I’ve worked less than usual. Working less more means exercise which I love! Each day I do one or two exercise sessions, usually a yoga or pilates class then later on a HIIT session. I’ve also cooked pretty much the whole time as me and my partner aren’t takeaway people, we prefer to eat out.

2- Read More

I have to admit, I thought that I would read loads in lockdown but there always seems to be something to do so I never have time.

In May I read:

-Land Below the Wind by Agnes Newton Keith

And in June:

-Three Came Home by Agnes Newton Keith

Both books are part of a trilogy about American Agnes’s move to North Borneo. Her British husband was conservator of the rainforest and ‘Land Below the Wind’ describes their everyday life, adventures through the rainforest and local tribes and people. It’s a great book on adventure.

Her second book ‘Three Came Home’ is during WW2. Agnes, her husband Harry and their two year old son George were captured and kept as prisoners of war. It’s a heartbreaking read but so beautiful and full of strength. I loved this book even more than award winning ‘Land Below the Wind’.

Her final book on life in Borneo is ‘White Man Returns’ which I’ll be reading next.

3- Do 2 New Things Per Month

May was a difficult month to try or do new things as it was still full lockdown, but we did have an at-home Mexican date night.

Visited Epping Forest for the first time (rather than just driving through).

And a few other things.

In June we:

Went to Leigh-on-Sea Old Town, a part of Leigh we’d never visited before.

Went fruit picking at Copas Farm in Cookham and visited Cookham and Marlow.

And went to Brick Lane for the Sunday markets.

4- Cook One New Thing Per Month

At the moment I’m cooking about ten new things per month! So here’s a few of the things I’ve made.

Biscoff brownies.

Chocolate chip cookies using a different recipe to last time.

A Thai red curry made from scratch, including the paste.

Lentil Cottage Pie.

5- Buy Less/As Ethically as Possible

I’ll admit from May onwards I placed a lot of online orders! I hadn’t treated myself for a while and with lockdown looking to go on for some time yet, I bought a load of beauty and cosmetic items. That said I made an active effort to buy cruelty free and as ethically as possible.

6- Travel/Backpacking/Days Out

Travel and backpacking haven’t been possible but as mentioned above we did get to go for some days out, yay! We went to the beach, fruit picking and to markets in London.

7- Use My Phone Less

This has definitely not happened. On my days off at home I’ve been watching YouTube videos and scrolling through social media more often than I usually would. That said it’s not surprising with everything going on in the world, so I’m not too upset by it.

  1. Don’t be hard on yourself for using social media and being on YouTube, YouTube can be a good distraction and can be informative and share lots of useful info x

    You’re doing so well with your other resolutions, good on you for keeping up with exercise and cooking more at home 🙂 Strawberries are my favourite fruit, I’d love to go berry picking one day x

    1. That’s true. I never used to watch anything but I have quite liked skincare videos etc. 😊 Thanks hun. Yes definitely, fruit and vegetable picking is so much fun. We usually go pumpkin picking too in autumn😊 x


  2. Yay good for you for keeping up with your resolutions!! I couldn’t agree more, with more time on my hands, I’ve been able to allocate more time to working out and I’ve never felt better!! Also I love the idea of 2 new things a month! Brilliant idea!!! I like to think I do 2 new things a month but now I want to start doing intentionally too! Thanks for sharing ❤

    1. It’s great, I really will miss my morning workouts once I’m back to work properly. But I have 6 weeks off at least now😊 It’s a good one to keep to because it could be you cooked a new meal or visited a new country. My new things were obviously a bit smaller during lockdown but there is always something new to try😊❤ xx

  3. Girl I can definitely relate to this! I am already getting e-mails for fall fashion! Whattttt?!?! I am in ae of you that even in a pandemic you are crushing your goals! Way to go beauty! ❤
