So the other day I was sorting out all the boxes of beauty products under my sink and I had an idea.
Whilst I have a lot of new beauty goodies waiting to be used, I also discovered many old favourites. Lots of unopened past favourites in fact and I had the idea of trying them out again to see if I still enjoy them like I used to.
(Finished makeup look is at the end of the post).
Primers- The Body Shop Instablur Primer, Revolution Pro Undereye Primer Hydrate & Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer
I’ve actually used The Body Shop and Revolution Pro primers for years now. The Instablur primer has a smooth silicone finish similar to Smashbox ones and works well with all types of foundations.
The Revolution Hydrate Primer is an additional product but one that’s affordable and I enjoy. As I get a dry undereye area, this just adds an extra shot of hydration before I apply concealer.
The Smashbox Shadow Primer is a new addition I used for this post as I rarely used an eyeshadow primer in the past.
Rate or Hate? These are all products I still use everyday, so rate!
Concealers- L’Oreal True Match Creamy Concealer and YSL Touche Eclat
As I used to suffer very oily skin (whereas now I’m more combination), I struggled with concealers. I found liquid and most crayon concealers too creamy and would break down on me, so the L’Oreal one was my go-to for years as it has a drier consistency.
When I found out this concealer was being discontinued, I purchased a load so I still have several in my collection.
This is still a pretty good concealer in my opinion and one I’m happy to use from time to time, but I have since found one I prefer.
The YSL Touche Eclat was much loved by me for years but after retrying it, I can’t understand the hype. It’s very thin and watery in consistency, and whilst it does brighten undereyes it offers very little coverage. It is pretty hydrating though so it didn’t crease.
Rate or Hate?- I’ll still use the L’Oreal concealer to try to finish it up, but I’m happy to pass the Touche Eclat on to my mum or someone else.
Foundation- Bourjois 123 Perfect
As high-end brands had mostly beige shades, the drugstore/highstreet had better options for lighter skin tones and Bourjois thus became one of my go-to brands.
Now though, I can’t find one thing I like about this foundation. It’s thin and watery, offers no coverage, clings to dry patches, feels tacky, went patchy throughout the day and the colour is a bit too warm toned for me.
Rate or Hate? Hate hate hate. It’s going in the bin!
Powder- Becca Soft Light Blurring Powder in Pink Haze
I used to love the soft blurring effect this powder offered me but stopped using it as my skin was too oily and I needed a more mattifying product.
Upon trying this again I found it gave a soft, airbrushed appearance and as my skin is more combination now, it stopped my skin appearing shiny.
Rate or Hate? I think rate. I’m going to start using this powder again to see how I find it. I don’t love the slight pink hue it has when first applied but I think I might enjoy using this.
Bronzer- The Body Shop Bronzer in Warm Glow, Blush- Laura Geller Baked Blush in Tropic Hues and Collection Speedy Highlighter
The Body Shop bronzer is one that I still use. It’s been pushed out of top spot by my Charlotte Tilbury one as it’s a more natural bronzer which no shimmer but I still love this one.
The Laura Geller blush was a firm favourite and I can see why I liked it. It’s pigmented, lasts well and adds a nice glow to your skin. It’s more shimmery then I’d opt for now but still a good blush.
The Collection highlighter is the first highlighter I ever tried and is still one I like especially in the summer. This is more silver toned then I opt for now but I like this in the summer with a tan and a more natural makeup look.
Rate or Hate? All three products will stay in my makeup bag and get used.
Eyeshadow- Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance, Eyeliner- KVD Tattoo Liner in Trooper and Mascara
The ABH palette was my absolute favourite and whilst I don’t reach for it as much anymore, it is still great. That said, I used two shades I used to love (Vermeer & Buon Fresco) and hated them as they’re the worst colours in the palette in my opinion. All of the other shades are lovely and ones I still use.
The KVD eyeliner is still my go-to liquid eyeliner just as it has been the past few years.
I sadly don’t have any mascaras I used to love as they don’t last in the way eyeshadows and other products do. I used the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk one instead for the makeup look.

Brows- Benefit Precisely, My Brow & Foolproof Brow Powder
Brows are another product that I’ve not changed much. I’ve used Benefit brow products for years so I already knew I’d like these.
Rate or Hate?
Rate. I used these daily.
Essence Lipstick in I Feel Pretty
I used this to create the look below but somehow misplaced or threw it away before taking a product shot. I really like this lipstick but I never wore it loads as it’s not an everyday shade for me.
Rate or Hate? I like this lipstick but sadly threw it away as it had a bit of a funky smell and taste.
So drumroll…..
The finished look.
It’s certainly not my favourite look and my makeup looks better on camera then in real life, but some of the products are still making my main makeup bag.
Let me know if you enjoyed this post.
This is such a good idea to kind of shop your own stash! There’s far too many products that i forget that I have that deserves a bit more love and attention. The makeup doesn’t look bad in the pictures at least!
Also, merry christmas x

Definitely! We buy new things and forget the old. It was fun to go through what I had and there’s still quite a few things I like and will use😊 Haha well for me the foundation and under eye concealer ruined the look. Once powdered it was passable so it looked fine in photos. Just not fine to me😂 I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! Is it cold, snowy etc there? X

Ahh well photos can be deceiving! Thank you, sadly it hasn’t been cold, nor snowy, just lots of rain and stormy winds every day x

Isn’t it funny how our makeup tastes change?! I think makeup can be very reflective of who we are at the time and sometimes we move on and what we like is different, it’s fun to look back and try old products now and again 🙂 you still look nice in the pictures xx

Aaw thank you, haha yes it is funny to see what I loved then. I imagine tastes change all the time, especially as my skin used to be very oily, my tastes are definitely different now. Xx

Also trying different products makes you realise what you like too, at one time you might think something is good until you try something better x

Omg gorgeous 😍😍😍 I love the lip colour hun! You look beautiful 😍 Smashbox eyeshadow primer is so good and I used to adore the touche eclat but it is more of a highlighter / radiance thing than a concealer really! I think they may have introduced a new one which is thicker / more coverage! I haven’t used it in years though so I’ll have to give it a try again and see what I think! Such a fun post hun thanks for sharing xxx

Aaw thanks huni😊 I know, it’s funny as it used to be pushed as a concealer then later as a highlighting concealer. For me it does brighten a bit but it doesn’t conceal or brighten particularly well. That’s interesting I never knew they brought a new formula out😊 I don’t but from YSL etc now just as they’re not cruelty free, but I get bought or given products that are not CF so I still use some. Glad you enjoyed it hun😊 x
