Days 1 & 2 in New York-Arrival and Shopping Up A Storm

For my partner’s birthday last month, I booked us a very special trip.

We was both super excited to be visiting the US for the first time and to be spending eight nights in the Big Apple!

We started our trip, by heading to Gatwick Airport in London. As we checked in and had plenty of free time, we grabbed a veggie lunch at Pret.

I browsed around the makeup & beauty stands, bought myself a new book and then it was time to board our flight.

Obligatory plane selfie.

The journey from London to New York.

View as we headed west.

On the way, I watched a movie, read magazines and used a face mask to keep my skin hydrated.

Nearing our destination.

After landing at JFK airport, we spent several hours getting through immigration and then finally we was free!

We jumped in a taxi and headed to the Arlo NoMad Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.

I only got a few photos of our room, as we was both exhausted by the time we arrived.

As it was for a special occasion, I booked one of Sky Rooms as they have floor to ceiling windows.

View of the Empire State Building from our window.

After taking in the room and views, my partner got us a pizza slice each from Bodega. Bodega is a 24-hour pantry/shop downstairs in the hotel and despite the pizza looking pretty simple, it was fantastic!

After enjoying our pizza, we got our pyjamas on and got ready for bed. Tired, but excited for our first full day in New York.

Day 2

Our day started with unpacking. We’d been too tired to unpack a thing, so we tackled putting everything away.

Once the boring tasks were out of the way, we could fully appreciate the view from our room in daylight.

As I started to get ready, my partner popped downstairs and got us a cream cheese bagel each from Bodega. I ate it before I got a picture, but we had bagels most mornings as they was delicious.

Selfies in our room with a view.

The downstairs area in our hotel.

The brilliant Bodega.

Near our hotel.

Our first stop of the day was at the Korean Bakery, Paris Baguette.

We tried a Mini Sweet Rice Donut, which tasted like a regular sugary doughnut, but more chewy in texture.

We also tried a Cronut. A hybrid of a croissant and a doughnut, it was deliciously flaky.

Paris Baguette had so many amazing looking cakes, I could have eaten them all!

After Paris Baguette, we browsed the shops in Koreatown and started to head towards Macy’s.

On our way we saw a food market.

Where I saw a stall called Jars by Dani.

We shared a jar of Cake Batter. It mostly tasted of sweet frosting, but it was still nice.

And then we arrived at the famous Macy’s store, which is huge!

I spent a long time exploring the store and still didn’t see half of what it had to offer!

After Macy’s, we crossed the road to Sephora. Sephora was one of the shops I most wanted to visit on our New York trip, so I certainly made the most of it.

After Sephora, we passed Madison Square Garden.

We went into the Whole Foods Market, which was foodie heaven for us!

Painted pumpkins outside Whole Foods.

Then weighed down with shopping, we walked back to our hotel to drop our stuff off and rest our feet.

After a quick rest, we went to Bath & Body Works which I was excited for. I spent until closing time buying goodies.

Again, weighed down with bags we headed back to our hotel.

My shopping.

(I’ll be doing a shopping haul post soon).

After a day of walking, we decided to grab some more pizza from Bodega and rest up. Ready for day three.

    1. 😂 It had to be done. I couldn’t face getting dry skin, so I used an eye and a face mask on the flight haha. That’s so the reason I bought one of the jars. Anything that says my name😊 Aaw thank you huni😊💕😚 xx

  3. Your hotel looks super nice, the full length windows would have been a nice feature! Cronuts used to be a big craze here in NZ a couple of years ago and I wish they’d come back, they are delicous! Bodega sounds like it’s well stocked full of variety x

    1. It was a really lovely hotel. I loved the full length windows. It made the room so light and was nice to sit in bed and look out😊 The same here! You can get them in the UK but I’d never tried one as they sell out early morning. It was really delicious😊 Bodega was great! So handy for soft drinks, late night pizza, bagels. The food there was good quality too, so we used it daily☺ xx

  4. I love watching the map on flights to see how much longer we have! 😛 I’ve always wanted to pop on a sheet mask during flights but I never have the nerve! I bet your skin was super happy with that.
What an awesome view from your hotel! I’ve been inside the Empire State Building for business meetings – you’d be surprised how old school it looks inside (uneven floors, tiny rooms, ugly wall paper).
Macy’s in Manhattan is so impressive – I still remember buying my first cleansing oil from Origins there!
What’s a visit to NYC without shopping?! I can’t wait to see what you picked up. 😀

    1. Me too! It’s interesting to see where you are on the maps☺ You should. I used a mask on the way there and back and no one batted an eyelid. It was a really good view☺ Oh really? We went inside for the view but I guess that bit looks fine. It’s interesting some parts are shabby. It is! Macy’s reminds me of the London Selfridges, which I love. Of course! I wish I had even more time to shop. My partner’s stashed a few goodies from NYC away for Christmas but most of it will be featured in a haul😊 xc
