July & August Empties

Usually at the end of each month I do an empties post, but as I had lots of travel blogs going up in July, I never got round to it.

I haven’t included everything I’ve used up, as some products feature regularly in my empties posts. So here’s my double whammy of July and August products I’ve used up.

Pur Minerals 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup

This pressed powder is my go-to foundation. I love the range of colours as I can find a perfect shade for when I’m tanned in the summer or paler in the winter. The finish also isn’t dry, cakey or powdery.

Repurchase? I already have!

YSL Touche Eclat in the shade Peach Radiance

Touche Eclat has been my favourite under eye concealer for a number of years, as I find other concealers look too dry, dull or the colour isn’t quite right. I use the shade Peach Radiance, which is a warm yellow for the summer and in winter if it’s too dark, I apply some of my Garnier 2-in-1 Tinted eye product on top to create the perfect shade and finish.

Repurchase? I already have.

Bourjois Effet 3D Lipgloss in the shade 59 Rose Allergoric

This is another of my favourite products and the lip product I reach for most. Rose Allegoric is a soft, delicate pink that adds a subtle hint of colour. I love that it isn’t shimmery or sticky, but it’s a smooth, comfortable lipgloss to wear. I’m only sad that as the Effet 3D lipglosses have been out for ten years, Bourjois have changed the collection and discontinued this shade.

Repurchase? Yes. I have one more in my collection that I’m currently using and if I see this shade anywhere, I’ll snap it up.

Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream

I bought this face cream quite some time ago and wasn’t that impressed, but as I neared the end of the pot, I used this nightly and realised just how good it made my skin look and feel. I’m pretty bad at remembering to moisturise every night, but when I use this it makes my skin look more glowing and healthy.

I would say this isn’t a really thick or heavy moisturiser, so for drier skin types this might not be enough or provide enough moisture in winter.

Repurchase? Yes. I’ve already bought another pot.

The Body Shop Passion Fruit Body Butter

Another product I love that’s been discontinued! I got this Body Butter free with an order from the Body Shop and it’s been my favourite ever body moisturiser. Whilst I wouldn’t have thought of trying this particular scent, it smells amazing like a fresh fruit smoothie. I went to order another one when I came home from a recent holiday, only to see that it’s now gone.

Repurchase? If the Body Shop sell this again then definitely!

The Body Shop Satsuma Shower Gel

This is an old classic that I’ve recently gone back to and been loving. It has such a fresh, summery scent, that smells like freshly squeezed oranges when you wash with it.

Repurchase? Not at the moment, as I have another bottle to use up.

The Body Shop Coconut Shower Creams

A while ago I placed an order from the Body Shop not realising I’d ordered a tiny 60ml bottle of this shower cream, so once I’d used it up I got a bigger bottle. As I’ve loved fruity scents in the summer months, I really enjoyed using these shower creams. I would say it does smell a bit like coconut scented shampoo though.

Repurchase? Yes.

Imperial Leather Fruit Salad & Sherbet Lemon Shower Creams

I picked these up as the scents sounded too amazing not too! Starting with the Fruit Salad Shower Cream, I found that it smelt pleasant enough but the scent overall wasn’t strong enough and at times it felt like I could have been using any old shower cream.

The Sherbet Lemon I was less keen on. It smelt too bitter like sour lemons to be uplifting and refreshing and it also had a floral undertone to it that I didn’t like.

Repurchase? No.

Vasanti Brighten up! Exfoliating Cleanser

I received this in July’s Birchbox and as I’m really bad at remembering to cleanse my skin, I was excited to get this Exfoliating Cleanser.

The first time I used this, I found it too rough and abrasive. The second time I used it, I rubbed my skin very gently and it still felt incredibly sore and red after using this. It also blocked my pores and caused breakouts underneath my skin. This is the first time I’ve featured a non-empty item in an empties post, but there’s no way I can use this up.

Repurchase? Definitely not!

Let me know if you’ve tried any of these products.

  1. You did well with your empties!
How long did that YSL Touche Eclat last you? I know it doens’t come with too much product but you don’t need a lot per use.
I love that Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream, I think it grew on me – at first, I thought it was a really basic cream. But then I realize that was the beauty of it – very basic but it WORKS. Question: how do you forget to moisturize nightly?! Do you wash off your makeup and slip into bed?
Too bad the Vasanti didn’t work for you! It’s one of my favourites – the trick that I’ve found with it is that after spreading it onto the face, you have to re-wet the skin or else it’s too abrasive. And it’s definitely not a cleanser, it’s a post cleansing treatment – I think Vasanti really need to rethink the name of this product.

    1. Ooh I’m not sure. It lasts a while. I did use this one up a while back, but you don’t need more than one click of product for both eyes.
Me too. I think because I was flitting between different face creams, I didn’t appreciate this one. But it is very simple, but good.
I take off my makeup and then sometimes it’s late or I’m at my partners, so all I have is face wipes. No cleanser, toner or moisturiser.
I agree, I used the cleanser on a bare face but it felt more of an exfoliator rather than a cleanser. I have sensitive skin too, so that might be why it didn’t agree with me x

      1. 😂 It does. It doesn’t help I can’t use any form of liquid product near my eyes. So even if I take my skin makeup off with cleansers, micellar water etc, I still have to take my eye makeup off with wipes x

  2. Lovely bunch of favourites! That Bourjois lipgloss looks stunning, I hate when they discontinue products you really love 😢 the Pur mineral makeup sounds really nice too! The thought of mineral makeup does intrigue me, what is the coverage like? x

    1. Thank you. I really love that lipgloss, you even asked before what one I was wearing in a photo and it was this☺ The coverage is good. It’s not as heavy as say Bare Minerals makeup, which is higher coverage but more powdery. I feel like this gives coverage whilst still letting your natural skin shine through, so it’s not mask like☺ xx

      1. It sounds nice for when you want something light and natural. What’s the name of the lipgloss? Next time I’m at a Bourjois stand I could pick one up for you if I see it x
